Notes:

CLASS 300 4x4 - Anyone having or having access to a copy of TM9 - 2800 "Military Vehicles" October 1947 should compare the fire truck bodies on page 323 the CLASS 300 4x4 truck body with that displayed on page 325 (CLASS 325 4x4). The bodies are the same on paper, which they are not in fact.   The two CLASS 300's fire truck bodies closely resembled large pickup truck bodies rather than the more typical fire truck body.  A review of weights of the two vehicle's (see specification sheets) will show weight differences further confirming the differences in body type.

CLASS 500 4x2 WLF - The specification for this truck appears in an earlier edition of TM9-2800.  Included in the description are three items:
1. The truck is a CLASS 125.
2. The truck is a CLASS 325.
3. The pump (type, maker and GPM output not shown) is self powered by its own Ward LaFrance engine. Research showed this to be incorrect as Ward LaFrance did not make internal combustion engines.
One of what is reliably believed to be forty four trucks of this model survives in operating condition.  Its pump is a 500 GPM Waterous centrifugal thereby placing this truck as CLASS 500, probably the first generation of the more familiar CLASS 500 4x2 with a Hale pump.
4. The Hardie LXCA Piston Pump is three piston, chain driven from a drive shaft mounted transfer case.  It produced an output of 60 gallons per minute at 600 pounds per square inch.

The items above show that Army technical writers from a long ago war either were not very skilled at their craft or were very limited in their knowledge of fire trucks generally and Army Engineer fire trucks specifically.  Collector/restorers would do well to question, question, question any contemplated purchase until satisfied what is offered is actually what it claims to be.
